Alternative Assemblies is an academic studio that aimed at exploration of alternative building technologies thereby later translating them into a set of Working Drawings for the selected sites.
This was a part of the academic studio at IDEA, Indus which set off by exploring the building techniques of Auroville and Chennai. The program included learning from the existing built structures around Auroville and later coming up with a set of drawings that were punctiliously detailed to convey the in-depth learning of the details of the selected sites.

Students explored materials of alternate nature such as poured earth, Ferro-cement, CSEB blocks, Rammed earth construction, and Achakal bricks for reappropriating selected sites like the café or the guest house or existing exhibition spaces of Auroville.
